The Charm Beneath (DVD) (Part 2) (End)
Introduction:
What lies beneath the rouge and wealth? TVB's 2005 anniversary drama The Charm Beneath reunites War and Beauty's Best Actor Moses Chan and Best Actress Gigi Lai for a sweeping tale of clan power struggle in 1930s China. With a grand design and premise reminiscent of War and Beauty, the 30-episode period drama follows the turning tides of the Juk clan against the turbulence of the early Republican era as players battle behind the scenes for money, love, and power. Moses Chan and Gigi Lai are supported by an all-star cast that includes Yoyo Mung, Anne Heung, Mandy Cho, Michael Tong, Mark Kwok, Sharon Chan, Kiki Sheung, and Shaw Brothers vet Chen Hung Lieh.
Patriarch Juk Mun San (Chen Hung Lieh) stands at the head of successful cosmetics brand Geng Fa Tong whose name and products are known throughout China. Juk has four children: eldest son Yau Sing (Tsang Wai Kuen), heir apparent of the family business; carefree and willful second son Yau Wing (Moses Chan) who prefers pleasure over business; strong-willed elder daughter Ming Wai (Gigi Lai) who can't seem to earn Juk's approval; and progressive youngest daughter Ming Man (Mandy Cho). When Sing unexpectedly passes away, Geng Fa Tong falls on the reluctant shoulders of Wing who struggles to maintain the family business amid the changes of the times and the maneuverings of relatives and rivals. The power struggle is no less fierce at home, as Ming Wai volleys with her aunt (Kiki Sheung) over control of the household books.
